The youth are the future!

In this program, the Phion orchestra spotlights two young yet already acclaimed musicians. Last year, 24-year-old Nikola Meeuwsen became the first Dutch person to win the coveted Queen Elisabeth Competition. There is no better way to mark that achievement than with the ultimate piano concerto: Rachmaninoff’s Second.

For this concert, the Phion orchestra is led by the talented Ukrainian conductor Olha Dondyk. At only twenty years old, she impressed the judges at the Maestra Conducting Competition in Paris, made a stunning debut with the Rotterdam Philharmonic Orchestra last season, and has already conducted numerous international orchestras—including Orchestra Phion. She now returns with Dvořák’s beloved Ninth Symphony, "From the New World," a musical memento of his years in America. Music from the "Old World" opens the concert: the overture to Wagner’s medieval music drama Tannhäuser.
