The South Korean dancer Jieon Ko and the Polish dancer Piotr Winarski move through a slowly shifting sound field.

Julius Hulshof presents a sober landscape in which the worlds of two extraordinary dancers intersect. Five layers of emptiness is a glimpse into the void and what lies behind it. What remains when movement is reduced to its most fundamental form?

With this performance, Julius stretches his vision of dance further and further. The performance creates space for emotional ambiguity. Here, the physical surrender and unique movement language of the dancers remain the common thread that guides the audience through the performance.

In Five layers of emptiness, South Korean dancer Jieon Ko and Polish dancer Piotr Winarski move through a slowly shifting soundscape. The dancers progress through different phases towards an invisible peak. The performance emerges from the improvisation of both dancers and the immersive compositions of Canadian Kyle Bobby Dunn.

Julius Hulshof works at the intersection of visual art, dance, and nature. In addition to drawing inspiration from the music and dancers he collaborates with, he finds many connections in the works of Mark Rothko and Lindsey Harald Wong. During the previous dance days in Enschede, he showcased his nature film Where the stone waits for me.
