The duo presents a versatile programme featuring music from different stylistic periods and traditions. Works by Johann Sebastian Bach, Felix Mendelssohn and Nadia Boulanger stand alongside compositions by Lera Auerbach and Astor Piazzolla. This broad selection highlights the flexibility of both the cello and the accordion, showing how effortlessly both instruments move between baroque, romantic and modern music.

The accordion as a fully-fledged classical instrument

Accordionist Vincent van Amsterdam emphasises the versatility of his instrument. For him, playing Bach on the accordion is only natural: the power of this music transcends the instrument for which it was originally written. Since the first classical compositions for accordion emerged in the twentieth century, an increasing number of contemporary composers have embraced the instrument.

Interplay of sound and colour

Thanks to the accordion's rich registers, the instrument blends seamlessly with the warm, sonorous sound of the cello. What's more, as an acoustic instrument, the accordion is uniquely able to let a chord swell gradually. This creates a dynamic and expressive interplay in which the two musicians reinforce and challenge one another.
