With L.A.V.A., ICK Dans Amsterdam presents an international collaboration bringing together the styles of Emio Greco & Pieter C. Scholten and Roberto Zappalà. North and South meet within a shared space, where physical intensity and rhythmic collective energy challenge and reinforce one another.
Movement driven by difference
The performance unfolds as a physical and sonic composition in which contrast becomes the driving force. Different movement languages collide, merge and transform into new material. What emerges is raw, layered and unpredictable — a continuous process of tension and change.
A landscape of underlying force
L.A.V.A. refers to a subterranean energy that slowly builds before erupting. This dynamic translates to the stage, where proximity and friction create palpable intensity. The performance explores how difference does not create distance, but instead generates new connections.
This production positions dance as a space where opposites become productive and encounters lead to new forms of expression.

Over ICK Dans Amsterdam
Emio Greco (Italië) en Pieter C. Scholten (Nederland) werken sinds 1995 samen en hebben in meer dan drie decennia een veelzijdig en internationaal erkend oeuvre opgebouwd dat zich uitstrekt van hedendaagse dans tot opera, theater, muziek en film. Sinds 1996 maakt het choreografenduo intens fysieke dansvoorstellingen waarin het intuïtieve, nieuwsgierige lichaam centraal staat — een lichaam in opstand ook, dat zich niet laat voegen naar opgelegde dansvormen, maar zichzelf tot maat verheft in haar beweging door tijd, ruimte en vorm. Met dit compromisloze vertrekpunt ontwikkelde het gezelschap een eigenzinnig bewegingsvocabulaire, dat al vroeg werd vastgelegd in hun artistieke manifest Les Sept Nécessités (1996). Voor hun uitzonderlijke bijdrage aan de Nederlandse dans ontvingen Greco en Scholten in 2021 de VSCD Gouden Zwaan oever prijs.
Over Roberto Zappalà
Roberto Zappalà is artistiek directeur en choreograaf van het gelijknamige Zappalà Danza Company, dat hij in 1990 op Sicilië oprichtte. Voor dit gezelschap creëerde hij meer dan 85 werken, waaronder de veelbekroonde producties A.semu tutti devoti tutti? en La Nona. Hij ontwikkelde een eigen choreografische taal, MoDem genaamd, en schreef het boek Omnia Corporas over zijn methode. Zappalà richtte tevens Scenario Pubblico op, het eerste internationale choreografische centrum van Italië. Voor zijn oeuvre ontving hij in 2024 een Lifetime Achievement Award.
