Simone Lamsma plays Sibelius

He is not just any conductor, but one who has caused a sensation at the world's great orchestras and opera houses. And equally grand is this concert programme, featuring Anton Bruckner's overwhelming Sixth Symphony. A wonderful work that earned the nickname 'the Philosophical', though the composer himself jokingly called it 'the Cheekiest'.

Alongside Hermus, in the first half of the concert, we find another star of the Dutch music world. Simone Lamsma is without doubt one of the most prominent concert violinists of our time. She shines in Sibelius's brilliantly virtuosic Violin Concerto, an absolute masterpiece by this Finn, who himself once aspired to become a famous violinist.
