On the program is one of Sjostakovitsj's most monumental symphonies.

Orkest Phion opens the new season under the direction of chief conductor Alexei Ogrintchouk. For many years, he has been the face of the orchestra, and he remains loyal to Phion for the coming seasons as well.

The program features one of Sjostakovitsj's most monumental symphonies. His Fifth is a crowd favorite that continues to capture the imagination. This concert also shines a spotlight on a few orchestra members who are not often heard performing solos. The three trombonists of Orkest Phion have shared the stage for 35 years. They shine in the highly virtuosic trombone parts of the Konzertstück for three trombones, which Jan van der Roost, a composer of great renown in the world of wind and fanfare bands, wrote especially for them. As an introduction, you will hear the sparkling overture that Mozart uses to open his musical comedy, Le nozze di Figaro.

Live, and right in the heart of the local color of the Orkest Phion trombonists' rehearsal space, the OrkestCast speaks with the complete trombone section as well as with special guest composer Jan van der Roost.

In an exclusive interview about the upcoming world premiere of the Konzertstück für trombone trio en Orkest, which can be heard on September 11 at the Muziekcentrum Enschede.
