Wat is een spiegeltent?
The Spiegeltent – also known as the dance tent – is a special, round tent known for its warm atmosphere and nostalgic charm. The wooden structure, mirrors, stained glass windows, and red drapes give create a unique, intimate setting.
The history of the Spiegeltent
The Spiegeltent, or mobile dance tent, originated around 1900 in Belgium. They were built as traveling dance halls and formed the beating heart of many fairs, festivals, and village celebrations.
Each spiegeltent was handcrafted, often using detachable components and portable dance floors. Most tents could accommodate between 300 and 800 visitors, with a central dance floor surrounded by seating areas.
At their peak — from the 1910s to the 1950s — spiegeltents were popular throughout Western Europe. They hosted balls, variety shows, and early jazz concerts. Today, spiegeltents are used worldwide for festivals, theatre performances, and special events.
