The Brazilian saxophonist Lucas Santana presents his new project Candomblé.

The Brazilian saxophonist Lucas Figueiredo Santana presents new compositions with his ten-piece Grand Orchestra and two dancers that reflect on the rich and complex history of the African diaspora in Brazil.

A concert of 'great class' according to the Volkskrant. The performance Candomblé is based on four pillars: Remember, Reflect, Acknowledge, and Celebrate. Santana uses these pillars to tell his (musical) stories and to take his audience on a reflection of the past, present, and future in Brazil. At the same time, he celebrates life with Candomblé, in all its complexity and beauty.

About Lucas Santana

Lucas Figueiredo Santana (1993) is a versatile Brazilian saxophonist, clarinetist, and flutist who has been based in Amsterdam since 2015. His musical journey began in Brazil, where he combined influences from traditional Brazilian music such as samba-jazz and Bossa Nova with the expressiveness of jazz. His unique sound has brought him international recognition, including the Keep an Eye Records award in 2020 and an award from the renowned American Downbeat Magazine in the 'Small Jazz Combo' category. Santana has performed throughout Europe and beyond, sharing the stage with prominent artists from a variety of genres.

JOC Productions

Santana is the first creator to start working under the banner of JOC Productions, the new production house of the Jazz Orchestra of the Concertgebouw that offers young musicians the opportunity to realize large-scale musical productions. With support from the JOC and in collaboration with Bimhuis, TivoliVredenburg, and other cultural institutions, Santana is creating a musical program that challenges the listener to reflect, learn, and celebrate.
