With AVOPA and SONO, two vocal groups join forces to celebrate an evening of modern vocal music.

Experience a concert that offers moving compositions on one side – and thrilling improvisational art on the other. Soulful songs meet captivating rhythms, stirring melodies tell stories captivating the listener. Traveling through different musical worlds, this concert explores and transverses the borders of individuality and community, isolation and connection, audience and performer.

Where playful ease can be overtaken by a sense of profoundness in sharing and creating this unique evening together. An artistic metaphor for the way life itself can be viewed through the lens of our connection to others, to the world we live in – and last but not least our connection to ourselves.

This concert comes to life thanks to the collaboration between the city of Enschede and Münster, Germany, as well as the Münster Vocal Festival.

Vocal Group SONO

Vocal Group SONO is an award-winning rhythmic vocal group from Aarhus with 25 passionate singers. Using only the voice as their instrument, they create unique and vibrant concert experiences, where each singer contributestheir individual musicality to a dynamic overall sound. Under the direction of their ever creative conductor Philip Eick, they take their audience on a journey through a diverse musical universe full of presence, joy of performing,and surprising listening experiences. They interpret songs from the genres of pop, rock, and electronic music – primarily by Scandinavian original artists. SONO is known for its powerful expression, captivating stage energy, and its ability to draw the audience into a shared musical experience. They have performed at national and international festivals – and are looking forward to singing for you, too!

AVOPA

AVOPA, short for Aarhus Vocal Painters, is a Danish vocal group of six professional singers: Philip Eick, Margrethe Debel Christensen, Frieda Funk, Mira Siegel, Tjeda Efken, and Peter Svane-Christiansen. They use the innovative method Vocal Painting — an interactive music sign system developed by Professor Jim Daus Hjerne — to improvise in real time without sheet music. Guided by gestures from a so-called "painter," they create unique pieces that are different at each concert. AVOPA invites listeners on a spontaneous, expressive journey full of sound colors, rhythmic twists, and emotional intensity. Their performative approach is internationally praised as innovative and magical.
