ENGLISH TEXT HERE
Two couples, seemingly closely connected, become entangled in a web of desires, guilt, and deception. Is it pure passion, an escape from the routine, or a deep longing that drives them? Secrets are whispered and truths distorted. How much remains hidden between lovers and friends? And what responsibility do you take for your own actions?
Cinematic Character
Marijke Schermer wrote the new theater text We Don’t Live Here Anymore at the request of Jakop. To give the text a cinematic character, Rina Vergano translated it into English. In the performance, we hear the dialogues as English voice-overs of the characters, while the performers express their inner emotions through Ahlbom's unique movement language.
Sources of Inspiration
Sources of inspiration for this performance were the novellas We Don’t Live Here Anymore and In the Bedroom by Andre Dubus, the novel Revolutionary Road by Richard Yates, the film of the same name by John Curran, the film Closer by Mike Nichols, and Husbands and Wives by Woody Allen.
We Don’t Live Here Anymore is a play about hidden truths and the unrest that arises when previously made choices begin to constrict. The characters find themselves at a breaking point, questioning themselves and their desires anew. Instead of resigning to what is, they seek what could still be. This poetic piece challenges both our reason and our imagination. It allows us to feel the pain, doubt, and strength of lovers in transformation.
The English spoken dialogues in We Don’t Live Here Anymore serve as the soundtrack of the performance.
